A Book is About to Be Born in May 2025!

This post originally appeared on Health Shift, Dr. Alice Burron’s Substack.

I’ve kept myself and my efforts under wraps…until now. Over the last four years, I’ve created a tool called A Health Hero’s Guide, at least for now (the title will be announced in November 2024), to help you and those you love navigate their health. (To be completely transparent, the title is still a work in progress!) I know the Guide will help because I see the need, the solution, and the Guide work.

I’ve been dealing with my own health issues. I had a primary care doctor, but she left and was replaced by another that I liked just as well. But then she left, and I was without a home base. They left no one to take over my care, and I was alone.

I had a few reasons to want to see the doctor, but I didn’t know where to go, so I shopped around. Two healthcare provider groups told me that they are not taking new patients. I was transferred to another provider group that reluctantly took me in, and I got whatever provider was available. Thankfully I got a good one. This took me about three months, and in the meantime, I had some issues to address, although I’m glad I wasn’t sick with something serious. I might still be waiting…or not.

I also had some weird health issues that weren’t serious, just seriously annoying. I tried several dermatologists who all told me different things that didn’t agree with the others. I finally found a doctor who told me this, “When you have a confusing case like yours, you won’t get straight answers.” Great. That’s helpful.

So I went down my own path of researching, then searching for supplements and alternative treatments. I began a safe supplement routine and added a few over-the-counter medications to apply, and viola. I’m better, even though I’m not fully recovered, but I’m getting there.

All the while I went through this process I was thinking to myself “Are you kidding me? How much harder could this be?” I couldn’t imagine having a serious illness and going through this fiasco. How can I help people do this better?!

Thankfully or not, I’m no stranger to this scenario. My kids have given me the best training and experience a Health Navigator could ever have. I’m also no stranger to our crazy, complicated, frustrating healthcare system and our crazy, complicated, frustrating health conditions. We all go through them, some more than others.

I’m here to help you. I created a way for us to understand better what to do in situations like this. We can better approach and navigate our health and healthcare, even if that means sometimes simply accepting it for what it is.

Don’t let situations like mine drag you down to your knees, crying in a puddle of tears. I’ve done that, and it doesn’t help. Instead, let the Health Navigator Guide bring you up and elevate you beyond the madness.

If I can do it, you can, too. Let’s do it together!

In the meantime, I’d love to connect. Drop a comment or send me a message; I’m all ears.
